Green Awards

Zerofiftyone are delighted to announce that we have been shortlisted for 2 awards at the national Green Awards 2007.

The awards are designed to ensure that creative marketing and communications campaigns are recognised and encouraged to make a positive impact on people's behaviour and they intend to ensureİthat sustainability and green issues remain high on the industry agenda.

The two categories shortlisted are:

Best Internal Communications with a budget of under £100k with The Green Book. Kent County Council have targets for reducing Carbon Dioxide emissions caused by energy used in KCC buildings. The proposed targets are a 10% reduction by 2010 and a 20% reduction by 2015. To help achieve this target KCC decided to produce a book aimed at staff to encourage them to volunteer and become a Green Guardian. The aim of a Green Guardian is to spread the message and encourage colleagues to think about their environmental impacts.

The result - 53 staff recruited to the role of Green Guardian with their office or team. Completed audits from green guardians assessing: Energy use, Purchasing, Waste and Staff Travel. Wider communication to all staff on environmental topics using green guardians as communication channel. New staff awards for environmental work.

Best Integrated Campaign with a budget of under £100k with The Kent Cloth Nappy Campaign. The overall objective was to encourage parents to consider using cloth nappies, to help reduce the amount of waste disposed in landfill sites. To provide information and advice on all aspects of cloth nappies. The campaign included press advertising, 6 sheet posters, Barracuda stands, newsletters, brochure, PR and events and was aimed at all expectant parents or parents of children that currently wear nappies in Kent.

The result - Raised awareness of the potential environmental issues caused by the use of disposable nappies. BBC South East coverage emphasising the importance of cloth nappies as opposed to disposables and highlighting the effect on landfill sites that disposable nappies have.

The award ceremony will be held on Friday 26th October at The Guildhall in London.
